Scripture Readings:

Matthew 5: 21-22 NASB

“You have heard that the ancients were told, ‘You shall not commit murder ’ and ‘Whoever commits murder shall be liable to the court.’  But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court; and whoever says to his brother, ‘ You good-for-nothing,’ shall be guilty before the supreme court; and whoever says, ‘You fool,’ shall be guilty enough to go into the fiery hell.

Digging Questions:

  1. What is Jesus referring to when he says the ancients were told?
  2. What sin does Jesus say anger is guilty of already?
  3. Does this raise the bar or lower the bar or keep it the same in terms of what the law requires?
  4. What is the consequence of this sin?

Reflection Questions:

  1. What do you think Jesus is trying to get his audience and us to understand?
  2. Does it seem like Jesus care about our outside actions or inside heart or both?
  3. Do you have good control of you temper?
  4. What are some things you can do to not be angry?

Challenge for the week

Identify something that consistently make you angry, work to address it in a Christ-like manner.
