Two Incidents! One Answer!

 (Luke 13:1-5)      5/3/20

Context

Two incidents that are brought up, one of them is an atrocity; one of them is natural.

Incident 1. There were Galileans in Jerusalem that were observing religious laws. Pilate (and his soldiers) came upon them so quickly that when they were killed their blood was mingled with their own sacrifices.

Incident 2: A tower in Salome had fallen and killed 18 bystanders who were standing there.

Intro:

Why do some have all the luck and others have bad luck, why some suffer more than others?  Why do towers fall? Four reminders that Jesus gives to them that I believe He would give to us today.

  1. Death is Unpredictable (Luke 13:3,5)
  2. Heb 9:27
  • Calamities remind us of the penalty of Sin.
  • John 9:2
  • Jesus reminds us to repent and be reconciled to God.
  • Acts 2:38
  • Acts 3:19
  • Jesus reminds us of the urgency of the mission.
  • Luke 12:35
  • 2 Cor 4:3

CONCLUSION:

Jesus shows us how to respond to falling towers… not by pride or blaming others, or on the other hand blaming God. “Beware” and “Repent”.

  • Jesus says, “Hate evil. Hate brokenness. Get on my side, because what I have come to do is to wipe this out, to deal with it.”   Repent – 2 Pet 3:9
