4/19/2020 Sermon- Life gets interrupted

 “When Life Gets Interrupted”

Mark 4:35-41

Intro:   What if questions…?  Virus, unemployment, school, parents, death….

              –     What do all these questions have in common? – Fear

Context: Gospel of Mark is arranged in sections: Parables and then miracles.

              4 stories highlight Jesus’ authority over nature, demons, disease and death.

Note:    Jesus has had a busy day – Mt 12:22, Mrk 3:20-21, Mt 12:24-29,   

              Mark 4:35-36. “Let us go over to the other side”

                           LIFE DOES GET INTERRUPTED  (Mark 4:37)

  1. LEARNING THROUGH INTERUPTIONS (37, 38a)
  2. “A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped.”
  3. The interruption was essential to their spiritual development.
  4.  (Could you name one in your life ?)
  • LEARNING THROUGH THE CALM (38b, 39)
  • The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown? He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.”
  • ReadCol 1:16-17 “for by him all things were created………
  • LEARNING THROUGH INSTRUCTION (Vs 40,41)
  • “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith? “They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”
  • Who is this Jesus?
  • He came to lead us to true belief, Son of God who came to save us from our sins, insecurities, pain etc.….

Conclusion:  

  • These interruptions make me see that I need the Gospel every moment
    • I need these interruptions for they push me to the Cross of Christ.
    • Do you believe? His Humanity, Deity and His Teaching.
    • Will you Obey Him?  (Acts 2:38), (John 16:33)
